Governance Adviser and Clerk to the Corporation

Sheila is a highly experienced and respected governance adviser.  In 2004 she joined West Herts College as Director of Governance. She played a key role in securing rapid recovery and improvement: with governance ratings going from unsatisfactory to good, and five years later to outstanding, and this was then sustained.

Sheila has also worked as a national and regional associate for the sector’s professional development agencies, delivering governance workshops and inductions for governors and clerks, offering one to one support for both chairs and clerks, speaking at national conferences, and delivering on the clerk’s Level 5 qualification programmes, all aimed at improving the effectiveness of college clerks and governors.

She has been the Vice Chair of the National Clerks Network, Chair of the ACER Clerks Regional Network, and a member of the AoC Governor Council.  In 2015, she was honoured to be awarded an MBE for services to Further Education.
